Temporary Driving License for Foreigners

Driving without a valid licence in Sri Lanka is a punishable offence where you will be fined additional charges thereafter. It is always advised that you go through a proper procedure if you are planning on driving through the country unless you have booked for a personal chauffeur.

Either one of the following driving licences are required by the Law of Sri Lanka when driving.

• Sri Lankan Driving Licence (With over 3 years of experience; 5 years for SUV)
• Temporary Sri Lankan Driving Licence
• International Driving Licence (IDL) / International Driving Permit (IDP) with an endorsement by the Automobile Association of Sri Lanka (AA)

We at Lakpura offer you the convenience of requesting for a Driving Licence with an Automobile Association Ceylon Endorsement prior to your arrival in Sri Lanka which can be obtained on the same day if the requirements are met.

Requirements

• A clear passport size photograph of the applicant (A clear digital copy)
• Full name of the applicant, address and contact details of applicant
• Scanned Originals of applicants own Country Driving License (English Copy / Translation)
• Scanned Originals of International Driving License (depending on your country’s driving requirements) (English Copy / Translation)
• Scanned copy of the applicants passport

The convenience of our package is that this can be done while you are still overseas. It’s as simple as it gets.

Our representatives at Lakpura will issue a letter (providing you email the required information) which will be addressed to the Secretary of the Automobile Association of Ceylon attesting that the applicant who is currently overseas is eligible to drive and is the holder of a valid Driving License. The documents will be forwarded on the applicants behalf and handed over to you upon arrival.

You can decide on the method of obtaining the endorsed Driving Licence, which can be either delivered to the airport where you can pick it up from us upon arrival, delivered to your hotel here in Sri Lanka or posted to your current communication address anywhere in the world by courier or airmail prior to your visit. Cost of delivery will be added.
