Vetiveria zizanioides (Savendara)

Vetivever, also known by its botanical name Vetiveria zizanioides, is another valuable medicine used in Ayurveda to treat various ailments. Vetiveria zizanioides, a herbaceous grass, is best known for its fragrant root system. That is, Vetiveria zizanioides are cultivated locally in any wetland in Sri Lanka and abroad in India. That is to say, vetiveria zizanioides are known by about thirty two names in Helawedaka and some of them are Indra Gupta, Abhaya, Sugandhimulaka, Rathapriya, Jalavasa etc. However, the most commonly used name is vetiver. vetiveria zizanioides are widely used in medicine, as well as in the manufacture of soaps, perfumes, cosmetics, oils, and mats, as well as in the manufacture of vignettes. In addition, vetiveria zizanioides are used in Ayurveda as a medicine to prevent various diseases.

Medicinal properties of vetiveria zizanioides:

  • Relieves urinary tract inflammation: Vetiver can be used as a medicine to cure urinary tract inflammation which is a debilitating condition. This means that you can grind vetiver roots in a glass of water overnight and drink it in the morning to relieve urinary tract infections.
  • Relieves wounds: It is often advisable to soak the roots of vetiveria zizanioides in water to reduce the appearance of bumps on the skin.
  • Relieves acne: Vetiveria zizanioides is a plant used in Ayurveda to treat acne on the skin. That is, to prevent acne, apply vetiveria zizanioides original Santalum album on the face and leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing off. It can also brighten the skin.
  • Relieves mental illness: Vetiveria zizanioides can be used as a medicine to relieve conditions such as stress and anxiety. That is, vetiveria zizanioides smoke and oil can be used for this. That is, it relaxes the nerves and relieves mental illness.
  • Relieves headaches: It is advisable to put a few roots of vetiveria zizanioides on the charcoal and inhale the rising smoke to relieve the painful headache and heaviness in the head.
  • Vetiveria zizanioides can be used as a medicine to treat these diseases. However, it is best to seek medical advice when using hand remedies.
